Natural Features
West Sandy Island Provincial Park includes the western end of Sandy Island which is located at the western end of Lake Nipissing at the entrance to the Upper French River.
The island is a flat sand and gravel plain and is noted for its near pure stands of red pine; and silver maple and green ash swamps. Relic shoreline flora such as tall cord grass is also of significance. The eastern end of Sandy Island is patented land.
Some of the red pine forests were blown over in a “micro burst” during a thunderstorm in July of 2006.
