Regulation and Proclamation

REGULATION: On April 21, 2005 the Ontario Government formally placed into regulation Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Park which was announced in the Ontario's Living Legacy Land Use Strategy,1999. This provincial park is located within the Ministry of Natural Resources' (MNR) Bancroft District.

The public was invited to comment on the proposed boundary of this provincial park before it was finalized for regulation under the Provincial Parks Act. This consultation was part of MNR’s Environmental Assessment Act responsibilities. Comments received by February 25, 2004 were considered for the purposes of refining the regulation boundary for the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Park.

PROCLAMATION:  The Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Park Act was introduced into the legislature as Bill 100 on June 17, 2003 and received first reading that same day.  This Bill received second and third readings on June 19, 2003.  A week later, on June 26, 2003, the Bill received Royal Assent from the Lieutenant Governor and at this point became law.  A law however, does not always come into effect with Royal Assent.  In the case of the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Park Act, the only section in effect upon Royal Assent was Section 5, relating to the Management Advisory Board.

On June 15, 2007 the Lieutenant Governor approved the proclamation of all remaining sections of the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Park Act.
